Support for the establishment of local online casinos in the U.S. gained a boost recently following results of a recent survey conducted by an American market research firm. The poll's results suggest that Americans would much prefer to visit online casinos based within the U.S. than offshore gaming sites. The majority of casino players surveyed stated that they would feel more secure about online casinos if the sites they played at were subject to the jurisdiction of U.S. federal law.
Of those that participated in the market research firm's survey, over two thirds pledged their support for the establishment of U.S. based online casinos, while only 3.4 percent advised they would prefer to continue playing at online casinos overseas. Online casinos are currently banned from running gambling activities on U.S. soil and high profile attempts by anti-gambling legislators to restrict U.S. casino players from accessing gambling sites continue.
Most international research firms concur that over ten billion U.S. dollars was spent worldwide at online casinos during 2005. This number is expected to increase even further over 2006 as the poker craze continues to draw record numbers of fans to online casinos. Additional factors such as the development of mobile gaming and the increase in sports betting on national sports events are also expected to boost the number of those participating in online gaming.
