Online Gambling Made Harder in Hungary
29 Jun 2006

It has been reported in Hungary that Hungarian banks have decided to begin blocking payments to online gambling sites. This move has come after it was decided that the banks wanted to try and protect themselves in a legal climate that has become hostile to online gambling. The legal climate currently in Hungary is that online gambling of foreign sites is being declared against the law for citizens of the country.

Blocking the facilitating of payment via banking is what the United States is also hoping to achieve in its bid to make online gambling extinct. A few law makers in America have been fighting the Congress for almost a year to make it illegal for the people to pay with banking or credit card facilities for any transactions made with online gambling sites. If the law passes, then it could see the beginning of the end of the thriving online gambling industry in the United States.

The Hungarian authorities have announced that payments to online gambling sites cannot be made from Hungary on cards issued by IEB, Citibank, K&H Bank, MKB, Takarékbank and savings co-operatives. This move is still very fresh and the impact that it will have on the online gambling industry is still to be felt.
