Attacks on Online Casino Promotion
23 Aug 2006
For a very long period of time online casino promotion has been an extremely popular subject both on the internet and on broadcast television. Recently, there has been noted an obvious decrease in the online casino promotion on the internet. A number of sites were able get their online casinos promoted on major search engines such as Google, however worldwide gambling laws are striving to put an end to this. One such case recently occurred in Australia.
Since online casino promotions are against the law in Australia; the fact has lead to a serious inspection of Google Australia concerning the violation of the promotional laws. Promotion for online casino games and gambling is strictly forbidden in Australia. Although Google along with other major search engines have made numerous efforts to prevent online casinos from promotion on their service they have not imposed the law meticulously enough and a number of online casinos were still able to penetrate the search engine and still appear in the search result.
Another search engine from Australia, less popular than Google, Web Wombat, is facing similar accusations as well. The search engine was charged with promotion infringements as a result for displaying ads for online casinos in their results. Michael Tancredi, administration director of Web Wombat has made a statement regarding the situation: "What we are trying to do is fire-fight; we know it is illegal to advertise for online casinos and we are trying to get rid of them as they come out."
